Project name: Recycling of high-quality CRM resources from Tools for reuse in applications

Project acronym: RESQTOOL

Topic: HORIZON-CL4-2023-RESILIENCE-01-05

Action type: HORIZON EUROPE – Innovation actions

Project description:

RESQTOOL is a project aimed at developing sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for the recycling and responsible supply of critical and strategic raw materials (CRM), such as cobalt and tungsten, tantalum, titanium, and niobium from end-of-life hard metal products.

The overall goal of the project, co-funded by the European Union, is to reduce the carbon footprint of the Zinc Reclaim process and to develop advanced and environmentally friendly chemical recycling based on agro-industrial waste-derived chemicals.

The RESQTOOL project will demonstrate the ability to recover zinc and biochemical processes for the reuse and recovery of critical raw materials at all stages of the hard metal (HM) value chain, starting from collection, logistics, sorting, and separation to cleaning, refining, and purification of materials. It will showcase a zero-waste approach to manufacturing by efficiently utilizing energy and resources, and by validating with real parts from the HM industry, thus contributing to the European Green Deal. This overarching goal is industry-oriented and aligns with the HORIZON-CL4-2023-RESILIENCE-01-05 call.

BUDGET: €8.8 million

Project implementation period: from 01.12.2023 to 30.11.2027 – 4 years.
